The Costa Rican Embassy in Nairobi is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica. The Embassy coordinates and manages matters of politics, commerce, tourism, education, health, and international relations between both states and concurrent Embassies.

How to apply for Costa Rica tourist visa from Cameroon

 Step 1 : Cameroonian citizens need to get a visa for Costa Rica by going to the nearest embassy.

Visas and entry conditions to Costa Rica

IMPORTANT: ALL foreigners who enter Costa Rica, regardless if they require a visa or not, must comply with the following conditions of entry:

  • Have a passport with at least 3 months validity at the time of entry to Costa Rica (the period of validity is of 6 months for those foreigners who DO need a visa)
  • Upon entry, have a return ticket or a ticket showing journey continuation to a third country
  • Prove that they have sufficient financial means to fund their sojourn in Costa Rica
  • Present the International Certificate of Vaccination against yellow fever

 

Group 3: Entry with consular visa:

Visa’s validity up to 60 days to enter Costa Rica (after being stamped on the passport, valid for a single entry), minimum passport validity of 6 months and maximum permanence up to 30 calendar days, extendable up to 90 calendar days.

General requirements for entering Costa Rica:

1. Travel continuity ticket or return to the country of origin.

2. Demonstration of economic solvency, which corresponds to USD 100.00 for each month of permanence in Costa Rica (see document demonstrating economic solvency).

3. Passport in good condition. The minimum validity must be according to the Costa Rican Legislation.

4. The guidelines indicated by the Ministry of Health of Costa Rica.

Vaccination against yellow fever

Before entering Costa Rica, any person who has remained in countries at risk must vaccinate against yellow fever, verified by the “International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever”, which is valid from 10 days after vaccination.

In their trajectory to Costa Rica, people who have been in transit through countries at risk, in airports, ports, and inter-border posts in countries of risk are exempted from the yellow fever vaccination requirement.

Are also exempted from the vaccination requirement the people who, having been in countries considered at risk before entering the national territory, have remained for at least six days in a country that is not at risk and have not developed a fever in that period.

 

Consular Visa

Application: Group 3.

Cost: As established by the Arancel Consular.

Approximate duration: The Consul has 30 calendar days to resolve the visa application once all the requirements delivered.

Requirements:

1. Request addressed to the Consul of Costa Rica that includes: Full name and surname, nationality, passport number, place of residence, the reason for the trip, expected time of stay in Costa Rica, place and approximate date of arrival and departure of the country, profession or trade, exact address of the place where he will remain in Costa Rica, date and place of birth of the interested party, fax to receive notifications, date and signature.

2. Passport or travel document, valid with an expiration date not less than six months and a full copy of all the passport pages.

3. Tentative reservation of the ticket, ticket or return ticket or continuation of the trip.

4. Proof of the economic means for their subsistence during their stay in the country.

5. Provide a valid criminal record. If in another language, provide a proper translation into the Spanish language.

6. The Consul may request, if necessary, any additional documents issued in the country of origin of the applicant when their presence is essential for the analysis in the granting of the visa. If the Consul has any doubt about the documents presented, may request clarification and may also request a personal interview with the applicant.

7. Proof of deposit of the consular fee.

 

If you don't comply with any of the above requirements please make an appointment at the Consulate of your jurisdiction to request the visa. On the day of your appointment, you must come in person and submit the following documents:

1.      A visa request letter addressed to the Consul of Costa Rica containing the following details: full name, nationality, passport number, home address, purpose of your trip, length of your trip, place and date of arrival and departure, profession or occupation, exact address in Costa Rica, date and place of birth, fax number for notifications or email, date of the request and signature.

2.      Application form. This is an official document, therefore only application forms issued at Consulates of Costa Rica or from this website are accepted.

3.      A passport valid for at least 6 months and photocopy of the entire passport.

4.      Your itinerary or a temporary reservation of your ticket. It is recommended that airline tickets not be purchased until your visa has been approved.

5.      Proof of solid economic status (bank account statements, salary, statements, etc) for the last three months.

6.      Police record issued within the last six months.

7.      One color photograph (2x2 inches).

8.      The Consulate may require additional documents.

 

If you will be traveling to Costa Rica from South America and/or sub-Saharan Africa, you will need the YELLOW FEVER VACCINE. The countries considered at risk are: AngolaBeninBurkina FasoCameroonDemocratic Republic of CongoGabonGambiaGhanaGuinea, LiberiaNigeriaSierra LeoneSudanBoliviaBrazilColombiaEcuadorPeruGuyana and Venezuela. You can travel to Costa Rica ten days after the shot.

PROVIDING THE DOCUMENTS LISTED ABOVE DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE THE VISA. IF YOUR VISA IS DENIED, YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT SIX MONTHS IN ORDER TO APPLY AGAIN.

Cost: In case the visa is approved directly by the Consular Officer, it will cost $ 32.00 non-refundable.

Processing time: You have to make an appointment in the Consulate of your jurisdictionIf your application is approved, the day of your appointment you will get the visa stamped in your passport.
